Are there any golf training drills, aids or devices for improving ones balance that I can use in my golf?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is balance in the golf swing to learn especially for one starting out in golf?

  1. I’d say about 16. I got my balance from focusing on the core like squats, sit ups, leg presses, etc.

  2. Some tend to sway during the backstroke, swing and follow through. The hips should not move backwards and forwards, so try this drill.

At home, get a beach ball and keep it pressed against a wall behind your butt. Now pretend to swing, and see if the ball stays or falls

  3. Balance is critical. You can’t make a proper weight transfer if you’re out of balance. Sometimes it can be as simple as putting your feet a few inches apart at address. Try that before you invest in a gimmicky device!

  4. You can’t swing correctly without balance, but I don’t think balance is something you consciously learn.

Learn to swing and you have learned balance.

Equate it to a baby learning to walk. They just learn to walk and the balance is learned automatically. We don’t teach them balance first and to step later.

Golf is the same. Learn a proper swing and the balance is just comes.

  5. Balance is " Numero Uno " in every facet of golf, every shot taken from the initial drive to the last putt. Most of it depends upon the proper weight shift from the start of the backswing through the pose on the follow through. Number 1 on the scale.

  6. PGA golf pros are giving FREE 10 minute lessons this month! Not much time, but you still could get your answers by an expert in person. Also, it sounds fun.
