Question by Matt: Help with low driver ball flight?
Really Low Driver Flight… LOW DRIVES!
I took a swing evaluation at GolfTec a few weeks ago and it pretty much cured the dreaded nasty 60-75yrd hook I’ve been dealing with for months. Everything from 3w-LW is going straight. I am now hinging properly, better balance and address is perfect. I’m hitting with confidence…..
……BUT now my driver is going so low I am hitting ground balls to the second baseman and shortstop. Drives are traveling about 5-7 feet above ground and descends after about 30yrds and roll another 30-40 yards. I have moved the ball further and closer at address. Also, I have tried everything from 3.5 inches to an inch and once I experimented off the deck. I have even borrowed a buddy’s 12* K15 with no results. I have searched this forum and tried the tricks and techniques with secondary objects and such.
I have even slowed down my swing to about 70mph from 92mph. ALL my driver shots are low. I need somebody to see what I can do to repair this.
I have also tried the technique from School of Golf a few weeks ago with just moving the body and guiding the club with no hinge.
Prior to the lessons I was hitting about 230-250 range with the hook.
Thank goodness I was never really a great driver and can use my strong 3W but that will only get me so far.
Thanks!

Man, there might be about 4 or 5 things causing your problem. Do you know the loft on your driver face? The average is about 13 degrees, and you might have a driver with an 11 degree loft, making your driver face too straight top to bottom and you are then basically topping the ball. Then you mentioned hooking the ball, and that would be caused mostly by addressing the ball with your shoulders too far to the right (if you swing from the right) You can also try to adjust your address distance from the ball as you might be too far back. Also you can try to shorten up on your grip by placing your left hand lower on the grip so that about 3/4 of an inch sticks out. Just try these things and see what happens, and you could also try using a lower compression ball. Let us know how things go.
