What is wrong with my 3 iron golf swing?

Question by ARIC A: What is wrong with my 3 iron golf swing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOp1qx0wpD0

This is the link to the video of my swing. Please help me!!!
Any tips, lessons, or drills you could tell me would be greatly appreciated.
Its just when I hit is it doesn’t go into the air very high and go very far i do not know whats wrong.

Best answer:

Answer by caddyshack
Well, I watched your swing.

I will first start off by saying this. The 3 iron is the hardest club in the bag to hit besides a 2 or 1 iron. It takes a precise strike with a great amount of clubhead speed to make the club worthwhile. This is because of the light weight and low loft of the club. This is why utility woods and hybrids have become so popular.

Secondly, your swing has quite a few issues, but to put it shortly your swing doesn’t have a powerful nor precise movement. I would recommend staying away from your long irons until your overall swing improves.

My official recommendation is to get lessons from your local PGA Professional. The money is more than worth it and you will see dramatic changes and before too long be hitting a 3 iron just fine.

How do I correct a golf swing that is consistently slicing?

Question by Brian D: How do I correct a golf swing that is consistently slicing?
I’m a beginner golfer. I dont want to buy new clubs. I dont want to take lessons. I just want to hit the ball straight.

Best answer:

Answer by TiK
Video tape your swing and have it analyzed. Other than that, without taking lessons, you’d have to just go to a driving range and practice until you’re not slicing any more.

Any Good Website To Learn About Golf Swing?

golf swing lessons
by danperry.com

Question by canon_xc: Any Good Website To Learn About Golf Swing?
I’m really eager to learn everything about this sport. I don’t have money to take some lessons from a pro, but I can go practice on driving range everyday. I’ve been playing it for a month. I try to find a good tutorial on golf swing, but there are only a couple online videos. I think it is hard to define your posture respect on your height. Some guys on the videos have different height also.

Best answer:

Answer by cmacjr23
Most online tutorials are going to cost you something, just as lessons would, so the only thing I can say is to look online for something cheap that will give you some good tips or get a lesson.

Q&A: Help with low driver ball flight?

Question by Matt: Help with low driver ball flight?
Really Low Driver Flight… LOW DRIVES!

I took a swing evaluation at GolfTec a few weeks ago and it pretty much cured the dreaded nasty 60-75yrd hook I’ve been dealing with for months. Everything from 3w-LW is going straight. I am now hinging properly, better balance and address is perfect. I’m hitting with confidence…..

……BUT now my driver is going so low I am hitting ground balls to the second baseman and shortstop. Drives are traveling about 5-7 feet above ground and descends after about 30yrds and roll another 30-40 yards. I have moved the ball further and closer at address. Also, I have tried everything from 3.5 inches to an inch and once I experimented off the deck. I have even borrowed a buddy’s 12* K15 with no results. I have searched this forum and tried the tricks and techniques with secondary objects and such.

I have even slowed down my swing to about 70mph from 92mph. ALL my driver shots are low. I need somebody to see what I can do to repair this.

I have also tried the technique from School of Golf a few weeks ago with just moving the body and guiding the club with no hinge.

Prior to the lessons I was hitting about 230-250 range with the hook.

Thank goodness I was never really a great driver and can use my strong 3W but that will only get me so far.

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by antonius
Man, there might be about 4 or 5 things causing your problem. Do you know the loft on your driver face? The average is about 13 degrees, and you might have a driver with an 11 degree loft, making your driver face too straight top to bottom and you are then basically topping the ball. Then you mentioned hooking the ball, and that would be caused mostly by addressing the ball with your shoulders too far to the right (if you swing from the right) You can also try to adjust your address distance from the ball as you might be too far back. Also you can try to shorten up on your grip by placing your left hand lower on the grip so that about 3/4 of an inch sticks out. Just try these things and see what happens, and you could also try using a lower compression ball. Let us know how things go.

Q&A: The proper golf swing and clubs that fit?

proper golf swing
by dæxus

Question by Peter L: The proper golf swing and clubs that fit?
I’m taking lessons right now and really trying to get my swing down right…what I am experiencing tho is that my golf shot/ball flight (not swing…maybe it still is bad…but thats why Im taking lessons)…seems to be getting worse…I think its because now that my form is getting better and Im beginning to really understand the mechanics of a proper golf swing (although exectution is a totally different issue) I am not adjusting my swing to fit my equipment as much as in the past…I am really hitting a wall…anyone else experience the same thing when they really began to understand the golf swing? I have about 12 lessons left and really thinking about just stopping for now and getting some fitted clubs…what are some of your thoughts?
in response to danbetti…im not really blaming my equipment for my bad golf game…what im saying is, if your clubs dont fit…can you really perform what should be a textbook golf swing…i kno eldrick woods can pick up any club and smash the cover the cover off…ive got some cheap clubs that are cast iron and apparently very hard metal, so the pro shop wasnt able to adjust the lie…which they say is about 2.75-3 degrees to upright…which means at address my arms cant hang the way a “proper” swing calls for…i asked this question because whats the point of me taking lessons learning how to make a good golf swing, when my equipment prevents right from the get go a proper set up…im asking this question to find out if others have faced the same thing…i wasnt really blaming on my cheap clubs…im partly blaming clubs dont dont fit properly…so this question applies whether or not im swing $ 2K set that dont fit…
correction not danbetti…wbaker, the 2nd response.

Best answer:

Answer by danbettin
90% of golf is played between the ears…when you think too much, it messes up your golf swing. As for your clubs, be sure they are fitted correctly, it makes a huge difference. Get some fitted clubs and then take some lessons…it should help.

What are some good golfing tips?

Question by Pimpgeist Immortal: What are some good golfing tips?
Ive recently started as an aquaintance in biz does, I have a good drive I use a North Western 1 Wood and it sails and I hit straight but other than that Im lost.
It’s fun though.
I practice in my field and I’d say 75% of the time I hit the ball over around 175 yards and fairly straight almost every time. I can get it to go either way slightly too
Sometimes it really sails…

Are there any good golf swing trainers?

Question by Mac s: Are there any good golf swing trainers?
Are there any swing trainers worth buying, which ones?, how much?

Best answer:

Answer by Tigrita
It depends on where you live. The top three in the country are butch Harmon ($ 1000 an hour), Hank Haney($ 1000), and David Leadbetter ($ 3000 for a few hours). If you have the money, or live anywhere near these guys, go for it. But, you can google “top swing coachs [where ever you live]” and you’ll find out that way. Or, you can go to golfdigest.com and look for an article about swing coaches that are top rated.
