Q&A: Help with low driver ball flight?

Question by Matt: Help with low driver ball flight?
Really Low Driver Flight… LOW DRIVES!

I took a swing evaluation at GolfTec a few weeks ago and it pretty much cured the dreaded nasty 60-75yrd hook I’ve been dealing with for months. Everything from 3w-LW is going straight. I am now hinging properly, better balance and address is perfect. I’m hitting with confidence…..

……BUT now my driver is going so low I am hitting ground balls to the second baseman and shortstop. Drives are traveling about 5-7 feet above ground and descends after about 30yrds and roll another 30-40 yards. I have moved the ball further and closer at address. Also, I have tried everything from 3.5 inches to an inch and once I experimented off the deck. I have even borrowed a buddy’s 12* K15 with no results. I have searched this forum and tried the tricks and techniques with secondary objects and such.

I have even slowed down my swing to about 70mph from 92mph. ALL my driver shots are low. I need somebody to see what I can do to repair this.

I have also tried the technique from School of Golf a few weeks ago with just moving the body and guiding the club with no hinge.

Prior to the lessons I was hitting about 230-250 range with the hook.

Thank goodness I was never really a great driver and can use my strong 3W but that will only get me so far.

Thanks!

Man, there might be about 4 or 5 things causing your problem. Do you know the loft on your driver face? The average is about 13 degrees, and you might have a driver with an 11 degree loft, making your driver face too straight top to bottom and you are then basically topping the ball. Then you mentioned hooking the ball, and that would be caused mostly by addressing the ball with your shoulders too far to the right (if you swing from the right) You can also try to adjust your address distance from the ball as you might be too far back. Also you can try to shorten up on your grip by placing your left hand lower on the grip so that about 3/4 of an inch sticks out. Just try these things and see what happens, and you could also try using a lower compression ball. Let us know how things go.

Golf Swing Tips on How to Hit a Driver

golf swing course
by danperry.com

Article by Sean O’Kelly

To learn how to hit a driver correctly, or how to hit a golf ball by means of any club, two things have to be kept in mind: speed trumps strength, and striking the golf ball cleanly means yardage. Before we get into a few golf swing tips, when we talk of speed, we talk about producing club speed from quickness through a coordinated effort from multiple regions of your body, and not on brute force. Golf swing tips should always start with balance.

Balance. How to hit a golf ball consistently involves being in complete balance throughout the golf swing. Balance is so imperative in how to hit a driver consistently for yardage, and it is often so neglected, that it could be said that all golf swing tips ought to start with this. As an illustration of the importance of balance, everyone knows how demanding it is to play in windy conditions, and that has more to do with balance than how the wind influences the flight of the ball.

Maintain lag. For golf swing tips, this may be classified as the secret weapon on how to hit a golf ball. It is defined as the club head “trailing” the hands. Many higher handicap golfers have trouble with the concept, since continuous acceleration is necessary to ensure a lagging club head through impact, and they don’t routinely speed up through the golf ball, but quit at the ball at impact. That closing rip through the ball provides club

Golf Tips – Hit The Driver 300+ Yards!!!

www.rdbgolftips.com – Download this tip FREE on Ron’s site. Please note I am not saying to hang back through the entire swing with the driver, what I am saying is, at the point of impact you will be behind the ball then post impact your body and club will bring you to your left side, finishing completely on your left foot. (for right handed golfers) Ron’s Passive Golf Method is about rotating the core of your body and following the eye line through the swing. Not only will you become more powerful, you will become much more consistent in your accuracy, based on the fact that you will no longer have to have impeccable hand and arm timing to try and square the clubface at impact with the hands and the arms. By using the core muscles you will not only deliver the club to the ball with power, your bigger muscles will allow the club to square to the ball by rotating through the ball versus what we all have a tendency to do which is swinging at the ball.

For better iron control in golf, try using a club that may seem like it will travel too far, as most balls are hit too short.
